Qualcomm gets 8 licenses in spectrum auction for $558.1 mln

said late Thursday it bought eight licenses for a total cost of $558. 1 million at a Federal Communications Commission 700 MHz spectrum auction. Qualcomm purchased licenses in the E block covering the Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia and San Francisco Economic Area regions. The wireless telecommunications company also bought three licenses on the B block at a cost of $3.

Sotheby’s auction house said Thursday that the 1864 letter set a record for a Lincoln manuscript, as well as for any presidential and American manuscript. Fed to auction another $25 billion in Treasury securities this week

The auction _ the second of
its kind _ will be held on Thursday. In exchange for the 28-day loan of Treasury
securities, bidding firms can put up more risky investments, including certain
shunned mortgage-backed securities as collateral. At the first auction conducted
last week, the Fed loaned $75 billion (euro48 billion) worth of Treasury
securities to investment firms. Demand for the securities, however, was less
than analysts expected.

Officials at Hunyani Paper and Packaging, manufacturers of the packaging paper, confirmed the shortages of the wrapping paper, which they attributed to foreign currency shortages.
