Kern River Resort Sells at Auction for $1.26 Million

million Saturday, Oct. 18, in a two-hour auction that pitted buyers
seeking to buy the entire resort against others who only sought to
purchase part of it. Thirteen bidders gathered on the deck of the 24-room Golden Trout Resort
for the auction, with Albert Burney Auction Company managing the sale. After a prolonged bidding contest, the property went to Tice Development
LLC, of Bakersfield, Calif. , which purchased the entire property. The resort is located on the Sierra Highway and has approximately 600
feet of frontage on the Kern River. “By offering the property in four parcels, we
were able to open up the process to more bidders, including those who
only wanted parts of it.

STOCKHOLM, Oct 20 (Reuters) – Iceland’s central bank said onMonday it was suspending a Treasury note sale planned for Oct. 23 due to market conditions. “Due to special conditions in the bond market, it has beendecided to suspend an auction of Treasury notes that was plannedto be held Oct 23, 2008,” the central bank said in a statement. The Internet auction giant last week issued an extremely ugly fourth-quarter warning, predicting that results would be down both from the third quarter and the year-ago period. The guidance fell short of the Street’s estimates by about 14%-a shocking miss for a company with a reputation for being relatively easy to track. Seeing eBay (ticker: EBAY) project eroding revenues in what should be a seasonally strong Q4 says much about just how bad this year’s holiday shopping season could be. But it also says something fundamental about how eBay’s core marketplace has somehow lost its mojo; changes in its fee structure have alienated sellers, some of whom have defected for other services. The company has a host of efforts underway to revive the fortunes of its main offering, a process that would be difficult even in a normal economy.
