Fitch Places 103 Classes from 32 Auction Rate Student Loan ABS …

NEW YORK, Oct 31, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) –
Fitch Ratings places 103 subordinate classes from 32 student loan trusts
on Rating Watch Negative as a result of disruptions in the auction-rate
market. Fitch is conducting on ongoing review of its student loan asset backed
securities (ABS) transactions focusing on those utilizing auction-rate
debt to finance FFELP and private student loan collateral. Following an
initial analysis, 32 trusts have been identified to have
asset-to-liability, or parity, ratios that may be insufficient to cover
expected losses at the current rating category in light of the current
interest rate environment and failed auctions. Parity ratios for these
trusts are generally below 100% and have either declined or remained
flat since the auction-rate market disruption began in September 2007. Additionally, certain trusts financing private student loan collateral
are experiencing deterioration in portfolio performance due to increased
defaults, contributing further to parity ratio declines. Fitch’s review of transactions with exposure to auction rate debt
remains ongoing and additional trusts may be identified for negative
rating actions as the review proceeds.

“We are now working to put together an after-auction sale with interested parties,” a spokesman for Tarisio said. The cello is named the “Fleming” for its most recent owner, the late British cellist Amaryllis Fleming, who died in 1999 and was the sister of James Bond author Ian Fleming. It is being sold by her family and the proceeds are to go to the Royal College of Music in London where she studied and taught. The current auction record for a cello is $1. 03 million, paid for another Stradivari cello, the “Bonjour,” at a Christie’s auction in 1999.
