Annual auction for Fisher House sets record

— A North Carolina art gallery has raised a record amount on behalf of families of military wounded. The Jesse Kalisher Gallery in Chapel Hill has announced that it raised $1200 in its fourth annual auction for the Fisher House Foundation. The gallery holds an annual auction of Kalisher’s art photography. Kalisher said all proceeds from the auction were donated to Fisher House. The Fisher House Foundation provides free housing for the families of military wounded within walking distance of military hospitals uniting wounded soldiers with their loved ones during times of critical recovery and medical care. For years rates on auction-rate securities were reset atweekly or monthly auctions but in February the markets shutdown as trouble in the credit markets spooked investors fromsupporting the trades. The SEC complaint alleged UBS “misled their customersregarding the fundamental nature and increasing risksassociated with ARS that the settling firms underwrotemarketed and sold. Under securities rules UBS would be prohibited from givingcertain financial advice due do the settlement. The SEC willrule on making the temporary exemption permanent at a laterdate.
